Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not my favorite I purchased this pencil sharpener for my classroom of second graders. I figured a pricier, heavy duty sharpener like this one would be perfect for our needs. It arrived in time for school last fall. After a month, I suppose, I noticed the motor just didn't spin like it did the first couple of times I used it. It seemed "tired" already. Furthermore, I found I had to jiggle the pencil and find the "sweet" spot in order to kick to activate the motor. "A lemon!" I thought. "I got a lemon." I even had the custodial staff look at it, but they just said it was a motor issue and couldn't help. I put up with it for the next 2 months. For the month of December I was home recuperating from surgery, returning to work the second week of January. When I sharpened pencils for the first time I groaned! "Not THIS again!" I soon became so fed up with it I called School Specialty and they replaced it (it has a 7 year warrenty!). My second one came quickly. I loved it!......for about a week. Then, it began to do exactly what the first one had. I have now had this replacement for about 6 weeks and am frustrated all over again! I have to jiggle the pencil around until the motor engages and then it doesn't "bite" into the pencil to sharpen it. For the money spent on this machine, and considering the warrenty) it should work like a dream for several years. By the way, I don't let the children sharpen their own pencils. I sharpen them each night. So it wasn't the kids that wore it out. My advice, buyers be ware.
