Sax Concentrated Liquid Watercolor Paint, 8 Ounces, Brilliant Colors, Set of 8 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vivid Colors, Easy to Use I have all of these colors (both the Primary classic colors and the Secondary color sets). We have used them in our Elementary art and High School Art co-op classes. The kids loved the bright, vivid colors, and I love how easy they are to use. I used to give the students pan colors, but it was difficult for them to understand that they needed to dilute the colors first, instead of painting directly from the pan, causing a gluey "shine" and an uneven coloration. The pan colors would end up wet and messy when we had to put them away. Well, these liquid watercolors solved a multitude of problems! The students can easily pour them into plastic paint palettes and begin painting immediately. (I have learned that you need to order an extra bottle of yellow since they go through it twice as fast.) The colors are bright, transparent and beautiful! The Elementary teacher did more creative things with the paint (shaving cream, a ballon & plaster sculpture, etc.) and the product worked great! These colors can be used with salt texturing, sponging, resists, alcohol, etc. with fantastic results! I think they are way more versatile and easy to use than pan colors. The Classic set has pretty much all the standard colors you need, while the Secondary color set has mostly pinks and purples (Coral, Fuchsia, Red-Violet, Blue-Violet, Pink; and Yellow-Orange, Yellow-Green, and a gorgeous Blue-Green). I thought the Yellow-Orange and Yellow-Green should have been more yellow-toned; I expected the Yellow-Green to look more of a Chartreuse, and the Yellow-Orange was a little too close to the regular Orange. But both colors are pretty. (I added a little yellow to make them a more distinctive.) I have 12-15 students, and we only used about 1/3 of the paint of the Classic colors (we shared these colors with the Elementary class). They are really economical compared to the price of pan sets. I loved the product so much that I intend make these a permanent fixture for my class.
